Calling All Gingerbread Homes!
SKyPAC is looking for professional and amateur creators to enter their very own Gingerbread House creations for the Inaugural Gingerbread Homes of the Arts event. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded. The public will pay $1 to vote for the “People’s Choice Award” to be given to the house that receives the most votes. The gingerbread home creations will be on display at SKyPAC during the event on November 21, 2015! SKyPAC to Recognize Fulcrum Society Members this Week
On Thursday, October 15th the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) will permanently recognize the following Fulcrum Society members: Citizens First Bank, Edmonton State Bank, Franklin Bank & Trust Co., Monticello Bank, PNC Foundation, and South Central Bank on the philanthropy wall and in addition, a row of seats in the Performance Hall have been permanently named in each banks honor. “The fulcrum members played an essential role in SKyPAC’s future. Their succor was present when SKyPAC needed the support from the community more than ever to meet our mission of making the arts accessible to everyone in south central Kentucky,” Jan Allan Zarr said when expressing his appreciation for the Fulcrum Society members. The Capitol Marquee Restoration
Historic buildings are often community treasures and preserving these structures reminds us of our past and the important role these places took in shaping our community. The Capitol Arts Center is one of those particular treasures. Built in 1890, the Capitol was a staple in downtown Bowling Green located in Fountain Square Park and known at that time as, Columbia Theater. In the 1930’s, it was redesigned, rebuilt, renamed, and became a movie house. After decades of operating as a cinema, the Capitol Arts Center closed it’s doors in 1967 and remained dormant for ten years. The Capitol marquee is a staple of downtown Bowling Green and featured in the works of many local artists. Giving this vintage piece a face-lift is a part of re-energizing Fountain Square Park and inviting more visitors to the theatre. Bowling Green Native Johnnie Mikel to open for Charlie Daniels Band at SKyPAC
Bowling Green’s native and singer/songwriter, Johnnie Mikel, will open for the Charlie Daniels Band on November 22nd at SKyPAC. Known for playing his signature Bedell guitars, Mikel performs between Bowling Green, KY and Nashville, TN honing his craft between performers’ nights and songwriter rounds. Johnnie Mikel’s first original single, “The Bee’s Knees” was released in October 2014. Johnnie is a member of Tennessee Songwriters Association International (TSAI) and Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). It is through the process of playing writers rounds and shows around Nashville that Johnnie met many of his professional contacts, including Mike Puwal (Mike P), who produced his debut EP which is set to release in November 2015. His debut EP, which contains 7 of Johnnie’s original songs was recorded in Nashville with some of the finest musicians in Nashville.
