BG Onstage at SKyPAC Student Spotlight: Meet Kelly!
Kelly played JoJo in our 2019 School Day Production of “Seussical, JR”. What cuties! Kelly played Young Anna in our 2019 production of “Frozen, JR”. In 2020, Kelly was cast as Ugly in our production of “Honk! JR” and was cast as Tammy in our production of “Matilda”. Both productions were unfortunately cancelled due to COVID 19. We miss Kelly and all of our students/actors and can’t wait to get to work with everyone again in person!
BG Onstage at SKyPAC Student Spotlight: Meet Colton!
BG OnStage at SKyPAC Student Spotlight Project! Because of the 2020 pandemic, BG Onstage at SKyPAC had to temporarily close our doors to the public, resulting in the cancellation of two productions- “Honk Jr.” and “Matilda The Musical”. Additionally, our in-person lessons had been switched to a virtual platform without the promise of showcasing their talents. We would like to honor some of these cast members by shining a spotlight on our students and alumni. Today kicks off our first ever Student Spotlight Social Media Project! This is Colton! He has been participating with BGOS for a few years. Colton is 9 years old and loves going to Disneyland with his family. Over the summer, he has been working SUPER hard on learning the vocal and piano parts of “Under Pressure”.
This Week at SKyPAC: Lighting Up Red in Support of Live Events
For anyone driving past SKyPAC or the Capitol Arts Center over the past few days, you might have noticed our signage or our building lit red. SKyPAC and the Capitol were among over 1,500 locations across North America to participate in lighting our venues, homes, and cities as part of the #WeMakeEvents initiative on September 1 to raise public and media awareness in support of the live events sector, which has suffered tremendously as a result of COVID-19. It follows a similar event held in the United Kingdom in August which was hugely successful and included 715 buildings/structures glowing in red. Locally, for SKyPAC and the Capitol Arts Center, we have had over 70 production workers impacted by our closings. Additionally, at least 6 security personnel, 9 ticket office employees, and at least 8 concession workers have also been without jobs because we have been without shows. We have also had to furlough employees to reduce expenditures during a time… (Read More)
Transforming the Limits: Works by Emma Simpson (Virtual Exhibition)
Transforming the Limits: Works by Emma Simpson August 14- September 26, 2020 SKyPAC Main Gallery Tours by appointment only Gallery Curator Andee Rudloff 615-438-6852 Closing Reception Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 6:30-8:00 PM RSVP Required: Scholastic@TheSKyPAC.com Artist Statement When I create, it feels like home. When I create, I feel more like myself than at any other time – I lose myself in my art. When I create, I feel vibrant, and breathing, and alive, and human. I want my art to rhyme. I want my body of work to contain motifs, to echo, to harmonize with itself. My art reflects the overwhelming beauty I find in people and in the natural world. It’s an embrace of human experiences and perspective, both personal and universal. It’s a reflection of who I am – my passion for sci-fi fantasy, for music and film, for the wilderness, for environmental advocacy, for fantasy and whimsy … These elements are a part of me… (Read More)

Thank You to SKyPAC’s ESSENTIAL PARTNERS: Our Resident Company: Orchestra Kentucky
In this time of uncertainty as deliberations take place as to what is essential and non-essential, each week we continue to highlight the ESSENTIAL partners to SKyPAC and the Capitol Arts Center and gratefully acknowledge all those who make support of the arts in this area a priority. This week we “shine the spotlight” on SKyPAC’s Resident Company: Orchestra Kentucky. Since 2012, Orchestra Kentucky has been a valued resident company at SKyPAC, meaning we work closely with their organization in prioritizing scheduling requests for performances and rehearsals as well as room reservations and other collaboration opportunities. We were pleased to recently extend our contract with Orchestra Kentucky and are proud to continue as the official “home” for their performances. SKyPAC is committed to enhancing the alliance between both organizations and despite our facility’s temporary closure due to the pandemic, we look forward to welcoming them back to SKyPAC. Until then, we congratulate Music Director Jeffrey Reed and the entire Orchestra… (Read More)

This Week at SKyPAC
To Our Valued Patrons: I would like to begin by extending our sincere gratitude to our friends at DKI, who kindly offered us use of dehumidifiers recently following some mechanical issues at the Capitol Arts Center. We truly appreciate their willingness to assist us during our time of need, which helped protect our beloved Capitol building. As we enter the final stretch of July, it hardly seems possible schools will soon be starting. While this is far from a normal “back to school” experience we are working hard to make sure SKyPAC remains a part of the educational tapestry for the students of this region. Arts education is among the core missions of SKyPAC. With the start of the new school year, we are establishing an education committee dedicated to facilitating enhanced arts experiences to the ten county BRADD region we serve. This committee will help promote collaborations between SKyPAC and school systems/homeschool organizations as we assess our usual school… (Read More)
