As Orchestra Kentucky celebrates the remarkable 26-year tenure of retiring Music Director Jeff Reed, this deeply personal concert reflects the musical moments that shaped his life and career. Handel’s Water Music — featured on the orchestra’s very first program — was the piece that first made him fall in love with classical music; Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet was the first major work he performed as a young musician in the Iowa All-State Orchestra; and Stravinsky’s The Firebird was the first major piece he conducted in music school. The evening also welcomes back beloved vocalist Tim King, the orchestra’s most frequent guest artist over the past quarter century. Together, these selections form a heartfelt musical memoir celebrating memories, friendships, and a legacy of music-making that helped define Orchestra Kentucky for a generation.
