About Josh Gates

Adventurer, television personality, and author Josh Gates is the host and executive producer of Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown, which follows his global journeys exploring archaeological discoveries, historic mysteries, and scientific breakthroughs. Armed with a degree in archaeology, a quick wit, and a hunger for adventure, Josh travels to some of the most remote corners of the planet in immersive, hilarious, and thrilling journeys.

He also hosts Discovery’s hit show Josh Gates Tonight, featuring high-profile guests like Matthew McConaughey, Kevin Bacon, and John Cleese. An avid scuba diver and photographer, Josh has explored more than one hundred countries, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua, and participated in archaeological excavations in the Mediterranean.

Previously, he hosted and co-executive produced Syfy’s Destination Truth, investigating age-old legends in remote, never-before-filmed locations. As the face of adventure for Discovery, he has also taken Hollywood stars like Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner on unforgettable expeditions.

Josh holds degrees in Archaeology and Drama from Tufts University, serves as a trustee for the Archaeological Institute of America, and is a fellow of The Explorers Club. He is also the author of the bestselling book Memoirs of a Monster Hunter.
