MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Winner Anne Basting to Release Creative Resources for Seniors

Concerned about the social isolation that many elderly people are facing during this coronavirus pandemic, MacArthur Foundation “genius” fellowship winner Anne Basting is releasing free resources to help family members and caregivers engage creatively with seniors. These resources are good for all of us during #healthyathome and following Governor Beshear’s request to stay at home to #flattenthecurve

The window mural templates grew out of a TimeSlips project in Kentucky, where residents in rural nursing homes re-imagined the story of Peter Pan. They responded to the question “if you could fly anywhere right now where would you go?” (That’s also a good question today, when we’re all stuck in our homes, Anne Basting said.)

Their responses included outer space, tropical beaches, family farms, big cities and monuments, through many different means of flying. Muralist and SKyPAC Gallery Curator Andee Rudloff created the scenes they suggested in black outlines, which TimeSlips has turned into templates. They can be used as coloring pages, prompts for storytelling and creative writing, and of course as murals on windows and walls.
