The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center Foundation, Inc. (SKyPAC Foundation) is proud to announce nine new additions to the 2020-2021 Foundation Board of Directors. This Week at SKyPAC
To Our Valued Patrons: I would like to begin by extending our sincere gratitude to our friends at DKI, who kindly offered us use of dehumidifiers recently following some mechanical issues at the Capitol Arts Center. We truly appreciate their willingness to assist us during our time of need, which helped protect our beloved Capitol building. As we enter the final stretch of July, it hardly seems possible schools will soon be starting. While this is far from a normal “back to school” experience we are working hard to make sure SKyPAC remains a part of the educational tapestry for the students of this region. Arts education is among the core missions of SKyPAC. With the start of the new school year, we are establishing an education committee dedicated to facilitating enhanced arts experiences to the ten county BRADD region we serve. This committee will help promote collaborations between SKyPAC and school systems/homeschool organizations as we assess our usual school… (Read More)

This Week at SKyPAC
To Our Valued Patrons: Happy Friday to each of you, I hope everyone has had a pleasant and productive week. Things have certainly been moving forward around SKyPAC and the Capitol Arts Center as we continue to navigate the challenging realities of our industry during this historic time. Some people have expressed their weariness with the delay in being able to reschedule performances, which has also resulted in setbacks in being able to offer refunds. Please know we are committed to addressing your concerns and our box office is here to make ticket adjustments within our policies for you. We are working with a limited staff as SKyPAC is closed to the public through the end of October. The tour managers and event producers for some shows have yet to confirm new dates for us to be able to release. This is an unfortunate but somewhat understandable circumstance given the vast majority of the Arts industry is shut down nationally…. (Read More)

Curtain Call: Arts in Education, A Remembrance of Ginny Miller
SKyPAC is proud to present a series honoring our area arts heritage. Each week we will highlight different trailblazers and turning points that have ushered us to the modern day arts opportunities this region now enjoys. We hope you will join us in saying “Bravo!” for the countless lives touched through the arts as a result of the vision and dedication of those documented in the paragraphs that follow. Arts education has always been at the heart of the Capitol Arts Center, just as it is with SKyPAC today. Realizing the limited opportunities available for area children to have access to the arts, many of the earliest supporters of the Capitol were steadfast in their desire to expand arts experiences for this region. “The only thing traveling was the circus and the Harlem Globetrotters in the 70’s,” recalled Mrs. Lucinda Anderson, “we wanted something for area children to go to.” For many familiar with the Arts & Education program established… (Read More)

Adapting so that the Show can go on!
To Our Valued Patrons: As we surpass the halfway mark of 2020 I think we all should take a collective deep breath in acknowledging what we have already come through these past few months! If this year has a one-word theme, it would certainly be adapt. That is exactly what we are trying to do at SKyPAC and the Capitol Arts Center. Despite a seemingly perpetual cycle of rescheduling, we are adapting to the times as best we can. With the recent board decision to keep the building closed through October 31, 2020, we continue to be at work in developing programming opportunities and events so once we are able to reopen, we will be able to hit the ground running. This includes our education staff, who are working to collaborate with regional schools as they too adapt to the ever-changing conditions around us. While we have been unable to physically welcome you into our facilities, we have endeavored to… (Read More)

Curtain Call: Capitol Kids in the Kitchen
SKyPAC is proud to present a series honoring our area arts heritage. Each week we’re highlighting different trailblazers and turning points that have ushered us to the modern day arts opportunities this region now enjoys. We hope you will join us in saying “Bravo!” for the countless lives touched through the arts as a result of the vision and dedication of those documented in the paragraphs that follow. Who remembers this blast from the past? Better yet, who still has a copy? The Capitol Kids in the Kitchen cookbook was published in 1979 as a fundraiser for the renovation fund for the Capitol Arts Center. At that time the building was still three years away from opening. The cookbook featured recipes from the kids perspective and included unique creations as well as traditional family favorites. In speaking about the cookbook, Anne Roosevelt called it “a very clever project,” noting that it brought multiple generations together. Indeed, few things connect generations… (Read More)

SKyPAC To Remain Closed Through End of October 2020
The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) Foundation Board voted Wednesday evening to extend the temporary closure of SKyPAC and the Capitol Arts Center through October 31, 2020. Both facilities have been closed to the public since mid-March in response to the global COVID-19 Virus. Acknowledging the desire to re-open at 100% capacity as soon as possible, the board indicated they would be willing to adjust the closure timeline based on continued assessment of area conditions. Though most events had previously been postponed beyond this date, the closure officially cancels any shows or rentals through the end of October, including the annual SOKY’s Got Talent competition and the BG OnStage production of Shrek The Musical JR., both slated for September. “In evaluating the enormous challenges posed on the entire performing arts industry, it became increasingly evident that closing both of our facilities for the next four months seemed a responsible course of action,” said SKyPAC Foundation Board Chair, Beth Sigler…. Capitol Curtain Call: 1980’s Seat Campaign
This week, we highlight the Capitol Arts Center’s Seat Campaign from the 1980’s. These names reflect many community arts advocates that played important roles in shaping the Capitol Arts Center. Please note the words appear as were on the nameplates of the seats and the era in which they were commissioned. We have made efforts to indicate those that have since passed away and apologize for any we might have unintentionally missed. Should you notice an error or a name you feel was left out, please let us know. At this time… (Read More)
